The actual cost of a plant closure due to an undetected gas leak can be difficult to calculate but there is no doubt it will be costly. The undetected leak can lead to an increase in insurance premiums. If staff or members of the public are injured in anyway, not only is there the burden of responsibility but insurance premiums may increase further. Generally insurance companies will require adequate gas detection to be in place before they will provide insurance but the gas detection (more…)

Sound reasons for installing gas detection solutions in the UK
Monday, December 19th, 2011Gas Safety with Gas Detectors
Monday, December 19th, 2011 There are a huge range of situations that call for the use of gas detectors. Any gases that pose a risk to human health require a gas detector to be present. Where gases are used that may cause harm to the environment a gas detector is also necessary. (more…)
Continuous Monitoring with Fixed Gas Detection
Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 In order to monitor the concentration of gas in an area and detect gas leaks a fixed gas detection system is typically installed. A system such as this prevents harmful gases damaging the environment, saves on operational costs and most importantly maximises the safety of staff and the public alike. (more…)
Importance of gas leak detection with the use of refrigeration units.
Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 When we understand the gases used in the refrigeration process we begin to see the importance of gas leak detection where they are used. Typically refrigeration works by absorbing heat into a liquid or gas called a refrigerant and moving it with a pump somewhere else. Some gases and liquids have better heat absorbing properties than others. The gases most commonly used in refrigeration are Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC’s) and other hydrocarbons such as methane. Ammonia is also sometimes used. (more…)
Functions of gas detectors.
Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 Gas detectors can be used to detect a wide variety of gases. Typical gases that need to be monitored include, refrigerants, volatile organic compounds, combustibles and toxic gases. Refrigerants are any gases that are used in cooling systems such as air conditioning units, refrigerators and freezers. Apart from the danger leaking refrigerants pose to the environment they can also result in a loss of revenue and potentially damage to stock and property. (more…)
Ensuring gas saftey with adequate gas detection in the UK.
Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 Deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning have tripled in the UK over the last year according to the gas safety trust. It is clear then that adequate gas detection is not present in homes and buildings. While decreasing mortality rates is obviously the primary reason for implementing gas detection solutions there are other reasons to consider. (more…)
Keeping check on refrigerant leaks with a fixed gas detection system.
Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 With proper maintenance refrigeration systems should be expected to last twenty years or more before needing to be replaced. However, that doesn’t mean a fixed gas detection system does not need to be in place. It can be easy to overlook a small discrepancy or to miss a loose fitting especially in a large commercial refrigeration facility. It need not be an oversight on the part of maintenance that causes a leak either. (more…)
The different types of gas leak detection
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 It is well known nowadays that gas leak detection can prevent serious accidents and save lives. Of course, the possibilities of a fire or explosion caused by a gas leak that avoided detection is something most of us don’t even consider a worry, and yet it happens all the time. (more…)
The importance of Gas Detection can never be understated
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 It goes without saying that gas detection is important. Catastrophes can happen without us even having the slightest clue that one is imminent. You only have to refer to natural gas, which is odourless by nature and can have lethal consequences, to emphasise the importance of having a good gas detector. (more…)
What our Fixed Gas Detection units offer you
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 Murco Gas Detector controllers provide the precise technology necessary for a complete solution in any large building where a dedicated fixed gas detection equipment is required. The full range of MGD controllers are listed on Murco’s simple to use website and are available as one, two, four or six sensors – valid with either single or dual level monitoring – and they are designed to be compatible with both the 120 or 230V power supply measurements.
